Shennanigans

Guess what? For the first time ever, I met another Malaysian in SL! Someone I didn't already know in RL, I mean. I have RL friends who've joined SL, but I've never bumped into a random Malaysian inworld whilst I was wandering around!

Laleeta met him first and when she told me, I nearly fainted. Coz he's a fashion blogger! Eep! Suddenly I felt all self-conscious and wondered if my outfit was okay. Do my shoes match? Maybe I should change my hair? But before I could do anything, Takeshi TP'd in and I had to pretend to be all nonchalant and cool. I know of him through his blog and always assumed he was Japanese. I mean, with a name like that... what is it they say about not judging a book by its cover again? *grins*

Anyway, I was too stunned to grab pics of the momentous occasion, but I do have a picture of some mischief Lal and I got up to... we decided to give a present to some friends of ours who have just moved in together! I wrote the captions, she took & edited the picture -- we make an AWESOME team! \o/

Wearing the same damned thing

Okay. People do stupid things in SL. They dress in weird ensembles that make you go, "What on earth where they thinking?!" and talk in voice at live concerts and wear heels that click as they walk and use annoying gestures in clubs and put excessive glow into their buildings and... erm. This was not meant to be a rant :P

But my point was, everybody does stupid things now and then, and some even are stupid enough to do it on the Interweb, which remembers everything. No, we aren't talking about me... really... I swear I know better than to do stupid things in public... definitely... couldn't be me... *whistles innocently*

The point is (err, yes, I did have a point... I think) that if you do something stupid on the Interweb, you should expect it to come back and bite your butt someday. Ow ow ow! *rubs butt*  Especially when some people with nothing better to do keep poking at the Interweb's elephantine memory.

Anyway, if I am going to be involved in SL drama, let me at least be remembered for what I wore (SL was being a bitch today so if I have any prims out of place, it's LL's fault!):

I'm sitting here typing this at 9pm on a Monday and I'm so exhausted I can barely think. That's how my weeknights have become for me, and that's why I'm not blogging much. I still go into SL every day, when I'm home from work, but very few of my friends are inworld at that time (roughly 3AM-5AM SLT). So I go inworld, get a few freebies, sometimes sort a bit of inventory, then log out. Don't have a lot of energy to do much else, also haven't been shopping much coz I'm broke in both worlds -- didn't even go to the Aoharu sale. My inventory is grateful :P

Today I'm extra stressed out and tired not because of work, but other issues... and not having friends around is making me a little sad. I'm always more vulnerable when I'm tired and stressed, like how some children get extremely whiny when they're sick :P

A skin journey

You know, I did not really believe that a skin could affect my appearance very much. After all, it's the shape that determines bone structure, right? It's the shape that decides how high my cheekbones are, how big my eyes are, how far apart my nostrils are. What could a skin do to me?

All that is in the past now. Behold the horror!

On the left: My current fave skin, Rockberry Eva in D (Natural). On the right: LF Chai Double-Shot Brisk-04 (from the Chai hunt). I took one look at myself in that Chai skin and nearly died! Clearly, the skin shading makes all the difference. How, I don't know, but it does! -_-"

This started me on a tour down memory lane, and I began comparing all my previous skins to my Rockberry. I don't have that many previous skins anyway -- I'm pretty lazy when it comes to changing my skin. Plus, I like looking the same every day; when I log in and see my avatar it feels as if I know her, y'know? If she changed all the time, I wouldn't have that sense of recognition. Am I making any sense? No? Darn, I knew it!

[in all succeeding pictures, the skin on the left is the Rockberry Eva Natural in D]

For a long time, I wore Folly's Another Shop Mod - Pink. It was my fave at the time when the first Quaintly's account got borked, so when I created this new account it was one of the things I made sure to get. It was $1L. I was still a cheapskate noob then :P

Then one day I tried on a Tuli group gift, the S5 Natural 1 (medium), and fell in love with it. I began wearing that exclusively.

But I wanted a more dramatic lip colour. I was looking for a maroon lip or deep red colour, and when I heard that Lunacy was having a sale, I hopped over to have a look. On August 10, I bought the first-ever skin that cost more than $1L: Lunacy's Aura 4. I think the skin was L$250, if I remember correctly.

Back then I couldn't run Windlight on my computer, but even without Windlight I started to think that the shading and contrasts on that skin were a little too harsh, and the lip colour too brash for me. I went back to wearing the Tuli, until Peter suggested that I start looking for a new skin. I wasn't really keen, because I loved the Tuli, but then one day someone TP'd me in to Rockberry to get a skin on the lucky chair, and omigosh the skin was lovely! And there was a sale! (Do you see a trend here? lol) I ended up getting the Rockberry Eva Natural, and have been wearing it ever since (D makeup). The whole Natural set cost L$400; I thought it was a steal compared to some of the L$1,500 ones out there.

Recently though, I discovered Belleza during the Peace on Earth globe hunt, and joined their group to get the group gift too. To my surprise, they announced that as a New Year's gift, group members could choose any one skin and they would deliver the skin to us, free of charge. That got me trying on demos like crazy. In the end, with the help of my Plurk friends, I chose the Brooke medium 15.

I somehow find that it makes me look older and more mature, though. The effect of the shading and make-up, I think. It's so subtle but I look at my avatar and think, "That's not her!" o.O

I also ended up buying the Brooke medium 17 because hello, maroon lips :P  At L$900, it's the most expensive skin I've ever bought, but the 'mature' effect has caused me to revert to the Rockberry. I know that, as a skin, the Belleza one is superior; you can see the difference in the picture. But I just love the Rockberry so much!!!

My 'special place' ;)

Happy New Year!

With the new year, Envision went grassy again, and I determined to do something with my lawn. I have a huge expanse of lawn that I've never known what to do with. I like the space -- I always hang out there, using the area to rez stuff, standing on a tree stump pose stand to sort inventory, etc. -- so I thought, since I'm always outside, I should do something with the outside :P

Inspired by Laleeta and Sai, I decided to create a pool and decorate around it. Both of them have lakes on their land. Well, Sai used to ;)

Further inspired by Aisuru's mystic grass (which I've had for ages but never used), I decided to make a pretty garden that I could relax in. Here it is by day:

And here it is by night:

So that's what I've been busy with lately. I keep adding to the garden... looking for cute or fanciful or whimsical stuff to put there...
