Why meeeeee? *whines*

I think my sim is borked. Gaaah!

Last night I couldn't rez stuff on my land. My neighbour couldn't either. I thought, oh, it's just the usual asset server nonsense, that's ok, I'll go to sleep and tomorrow it'll be fine.

Tonight I STILL can't rez stuff on my land. When I try to drag it from inventory, I can't drop it on the land. If I can drop it on the land, it doesn't appear and ten seconds later I get the message, "Attempt to rez an object failed".

Very strange, I can build. I can rez a plywood cube from nothing. But I can't bring stuff out from my inventory, even stuff that I'd made myself (like my campfire logs).

Even stranger, I can't even create a new notecard. I tried, nothing happened.

So I went over to Dyami and CeN's place to see if I would be able to rez stuff there. CeN once told Laleeta and I that we are welcome there anytime, and it's a lovely place -- oceanfront!

No problems rezzing stuff over there. No problems creating a notecard either.

I sent my landlord a notecard complaining of sim weirdness :P

Meanwhile, I have successfully converted another one of my RL friends into an SL resident! Meet Haeven Ethaniel, who has been helping me to troubleshoot my blog.

"You lah! I had to read all your posts, and then I got curious!" were her exact words. Muahahahahahah. Mai evil plan, it haz wurkd! And to think she always rolled her eyes at me before whenever I mentioned SL...

Meh! SL no like me.

There I was, doing some shopping, minding my own business, when I crashed. Spectacularly.

Tried to log back in. Guess what? SL wouldn't let me! Got this message (click for bigger image):

59,928 residents inworld is considered "higher than usual"??? Thought that was about the average number on any given day...

Give me back my SL!

Fell asleep in the afternoon and woke at 4:30am. Woohoo way to go messing up my sleep schedule :\ So what does one do at 4:30am? Go online, of course.

Only to be met with the message:

Logins and In-World Services are Intermittent for some residents

We have reports of sporatic unavailablity of some services such as login, teleport, and rezzing objects. We are aware of the problem and are working to bring these services back online as quickly as possible.

Meh!

Meanwhile I'm clearing up my application invites list on Facebook, going round the SL blogs, and stalking the SL forums. Hrrmph.

Great. Not again!

I received my debit card statement in the mail today, and wonder of wonders, I have more money in my card than I thought I had! Which means I can buy Lindens! Which means I'm not broke anymore! Yay!!!

But, I dare not purchase anything, because...

A number of my inventory folders are SHOWING EMPTY AGAIN. Dammit!

It happened three days ago. I haven't worried because one of the folders showing empty contains the hair currently on my head, and another contains the boots on my feet. I figured it was just normal SL weirdness and just went about my usual stuff.

Well, three days and my folders are still empty. Of course, this only happens to Quaintly and not my other two alts. Maybe the name Quaintly is jinxed... (for those who don't know, my original av Quaintly Questi lost her entire inventory in February. *sigh*)

Strangely enough, I am not upset -- I am annoyed. I can't understand how the HAIR ON MY HEAD could be missing from inventory, nor the BOOTS ON MY FEET. So, it's probably an issue with the stoopid inventory not loading properly from the database or something. I did the clear-cache-and-log-into-low-lag-sim thing, no difference. Maybe I need to try it a few more times.

Bah!

UPDATE:
I cleared cache again, then logged in with the Nicholaz viewer instead. Inventory loaded like a dream! Logged out and then went back to 1.19.1(4) and everything was back where it should be. Another day, another catastrophe averted...

Wonder why we put up with it

So, it is 3am and I am procrastinating on my uni assignment (which is due in 12 hours. Eek!). I decide to pop in-world for a bit just to clear my IMs (famous last words!). After all, my IMs constantly get capped, which is not nice -- annoying to miss messages.

I can't log in.

So I go to the Official Second Life Blog to see if SL is offline. There's nothing on the blog to indicate such a thing.

I decide to log in to the SL website and I get a 500 Internal Server Error on secondlife.com.

So why isn't there anything on the blog? Obviously something is wrong somewhere...

I swear, SL is getting BUGGIER every single day. I wonder how long before it gets too frustrating and residents start leaving in droves. Well, at least now I can get back to my assignment :P

Outside of enough!

I logged on today and went looking for a landmark to a hunt I wanted to do.

NO LANDMARK.

I ran a search.

NO LANDMARK.

And then I realised... my inventory says 8,000 items. Yesterday I had 19,000.

HALF OF MY INVENTORY HAD DISAPPEARED.

I phoned IcyQueen.

"Not again!" was her response. Oh yes, again.

I checked the folders of the clothes and shoes I was wearing.

THE RELEVANT FOLDERS WERE EMPTY.

"Why is this happening to you again?" IcyQueen asked. I wanted the answer too.

I logged out, cleared cache, re-logged, waited five minutes (recommended by Linden Lab to allow your inventory to reload), and NOTHING HAD CHANGED.

Okay, so I'm hoping this is a temporary glitch. I'm going to log in tomorrow and see whether my inventory is back. How can I keep losing the clothes I'm wearing???

The only thing that comforts me is, the last time, textures remained but the prims disappeared from my av. This time... prims and textures are both there. So it is slightly -- SLIGHTLY! -- different.

I swear, an online world is not worth this kind of aggravation. If my inventory doesn't come back, I'm done with SL. Finished!

UPDATE: IcyQueen logged me in from her laptop and it appears my inventory is back! But I'm not going to log in... I'm going to sleep. Too much drama lolol

Ah, those newbie days

Today I found myself on the phone with a friend, giving her step-by-step instructions on how to get around SL.

She has just joined SL, and was having some problems. She sent me a snapshot of herself... with a dark-skinned face, pink torso & arms, and white legs. She said she didn't know what happened, her inventory said she was wearing her newbie clothes, but her clothes weren't showing.

Newbie woes on SL: why do I look like this?

After I stopped laughing, I told her to join Tuli's update group because I know Tuli sent skins and a dress to their group recently. I figured if she were to put on a new skin and new clothes, that might solve her problem.

So I walked her through, step by step...

"Okay, click 'Search' at the bottom of your screen. A box pops up, right?"

"Look at the top of the box. Click 'Groups'."

"Type 'Tuli' and click 'Search'."

"Okay, click the name of that group. At the right, you should see a picture and underneath that picture, it says 'Join'. Click 'Join'."

And so on, so forth, till she went through the notices and got the items... then I had to bring her somewhere that would allow her to rez (open) the boxes. Luckily, Cherlindrea had posted about The Pink House some time ago.

She went there, rezzed her boxes, wore the skin and dress, and viola! Problem solved. Then I sent her to Calla to get free hair :D

I think we must have spent half-an-hour over the phone. It was soooo funny. Reminded me of my newbie days and how I had such trouble figuring things out! In the first week, I kept apologising to people: "Sorry, I'm new here and I'm still having trouble controlling my avatar." lolol

Meanwhile, Linden Lab has gotten back to me again:

Greetings Quaintly, Thank you for your continued patience. I am currently unable to find any record of your missing inventory however the fact that you are wearing clothes yet they are not listed in your inventory indicate that there is definitely an issue here that needs closer investigation. I am passing this matter to our inventory specialists who may be able to find something I have not. We will keep you informed as to our progress on this issue. Best regards Gavin Linden Lab Support

I'm really thankful for Claire, Gavin and all the other people who are trying to help me resolve this inventory problem. Hoping for good news :)
